This will serve as a guide to what topics will be posted regarding CLUTCHING.
APPENDIX
Section 0 – Clutching -Tools needed and/or Required
Section 1 – CVT Clutching Theory (How it WORKS)
Section 2 – Primary Clutch Mods (Springs, Flyweights) & Effects
Section 3 – Secondary Clutch Mods (Springs, Helix) & Effects
Section 4 – Drive Belts (Types, Alignment, Freeplay)
Section 5 – Items Affecting Clutching (Total Weight, Wheel Rim Size, Tire Size, Tire Configuration, Riding Preferences, Temperature/Humidity, Elevation, Engine Mods)
Section 6 - Removal/Disassembly/Re-installation of Both Clutches

Ending SEGMENT – Break Out Separate Riding Styles w/Results of Base Line & Clutch Changes
I felt that in order for riders to be able to compare apples to apples, that the Results of
Base Line Testing & Individual Clutch Component Changes should be separated by
Riding Styles. Hopefully by constructing the breakout results in this manner, individuals
can report various Tire Sizes/Types that would tend to alter any meaningful comparisons
and thus further equalizing the playing field. It is my Hope, that one or more individuals falling into each category, will pick the ball up and run with it within that breakout.
Sand / Dune Riding
Mudding – Pit , etc
Competitive Track Racing
Competitive Cross Country Racing
ALL Out Drag Racing
Rock Crawling and/or Sled Pulls
Trail Riding – All types, Normal Riding
High Horsepower-Either Turboed,Supercharged,Nitrous,Engine Replacements(ie Weber,etc)
BASE LINE Setup
In that very few individuals have access to a radar gun or timing lights, I think the following should be used to determine the BASELINE or starting point, so that any
person would know whether or not they are making progress when attempting to change/
setup Clutching changes.
DETAILS for TESTING....Below:
Always run the exact test strip with the same # of people in the RZR and if possible same load (ie. fuel, accesories, etc)
Pick a straight, level road if possible and mark off the distance, preferably 500' or more. I prefer 500' cause that's when you NORMALLY hit Full Shift out, but for some machines it could be quicker or even take longer. By setting one common distance, then everyone could adjust the results accordingly. This LONG distance run will only be used in #2. of each test run
Get your engine warmed up and do 6 runs as follows:
All testing should be done on asphalt
High Gear Only
Two Wheel Drive Only
S T O C K C L U T C H S E T U P
---------------------------------------------
Slowly press the accelerator pedal and write the RPM's when you feel the clutch engage & write down the RPM's when you actually start moving. You'll need these numbers later on.
1. DO 3 RUNS under the following conditions:These are SHORT MPH RUNS ONLY
Start off WOT and watch the MPH. You want to check the acceleration up to a given point. I have chosen 30 MPH in that this will allow short distance acceleration testing and/or tuning for LowEnd Torque.
You should LOG the following:
RPM's
Elapsed Time
*I've found it's easier to have a passenger so they can record the RPM. You say START when you takeoff and you Start the stopwatch. You watch the ROAD and the MPH. When you hit 30 MPH say STOP and Stop the stopwatch. The passenger should be watching the tach to record the RPM's when you say STOP.
2. DO 3 RUNS under the following conditions:These are for the DISTANCE that you measured, 500'
Start off WOT and run the entire length of the test strip that you measured.
You should LOG the following:
RPM's
Elapsed Time
MPH
* You watch the road and MPH and take care of the stopwatch, passenger takes care of the RPM's. Still use the concept of START --- STOP
Record ALL results for each test run.
At this point you would have your Benchmark to be able to judgement the effects of any modifications.
